Worship and Intercession

"Worship and intercession must go together.  One is impossible without the other."  (My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambers)

Worship is defined as worthiness, respect, reverence to God, extravagant respect or admiration or devotion, the expression of such reverence, to idolize.

It's easy to see what people idolize because they express it.  They hang it on their wall, buy it, wear it, talk about it, drive it, clean it, etc.  What do you idolize?  What would other people say you idolize?  How much do you idolize Jesus?  How do you outwardly express your worship to Jesus?  Do you sing, dance, smile, meditate, lift holy hands?

Intercession is defined as prayer, petition, mediation.  Oswald Chambers defines it as "raising ourselves up to the point of getting the mind of Christ regarding the person for whom we're praying."  Philippians 2:5 says, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."  When we worship God, it gets our mind on God and we can pray with the right perspective.

1 Corinthians 14:15 says, "What is it then?  I will pray with the spirit, and will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also"

Isaiah 59:16 asks the question, "Where are the intercessors?"  Let us become the intercessors!  Ephesians 6:18 says, "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints..."

Has there ever been a time in your life when you felt called to intercede for a specific person?  How did you respond to that call to prayer?  Sometimes I say yes to God and pray....but other times I say yes to sleep or I get distracted with other things.  We need each others prayers.  Sometimes maybe you don't pray because you don't know how.

One way to intercede is to pray Scripture.  Read the following verses out loud as a prayer for someone.  Ephesians 3:14-21 and Colossians 1:9-14.  It is powerful!!

Another way to intercede is to use lists.  List your family members and friends and their prayer requests.

Psalm 55:17 says, "Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud:and he shall hear my voice."

We should intercede because Christ set us an example.  Read Romans 8:34, 8:27 and Hebrews 7:25.

Intercession is so important that Christ ever lives to intercede for us.  Make it your goal to have a daily time of worship and prayer, even if its just for a few minutes.  The devil will try to distract you and discourage you because he knows prayer is powerful.  Remain steadfast and you will see changes, answered prayers and increased faith and intimacy with Christ.
