Start with Why


 As I started reading the first 2 chapters of this book (Ministry to Women) that our women’s ministry leadership team is about to study together, I had a God moment. 


I love when this happens! I tell people about them all the time. My book (Walk by Faith) is full of stories like this that really happened. 


Oh the joys of walking with Jesus! I wish everyone could experience it. 


In the first chapter, one of her first sentences was about a book called Start with Why. This was a book I recently read with another woman in ministry as she was going through an assessment with me. 


We discussed the importance of how any leader must “start with why” when they are leading a team to accomplish a goal together. 


In ministry the goal is not making money or building buildings. The goal is to see lost souls saved, new christians discipled, to help people discover their spiritual gift so they can serve the body of Christ & to obey what the Lord is calling you to do. Why? For His Glory, because Jesus said to, to build His Kingdom, to have an eternal impact. 


The Bible says “not to store up treasures on earth where thieves can break in and steal and moths can destroy, but store up treasures in heaven where thieves can’t break in and steal and moths can’t destroy. For where your treasure is, there your heart is also.” Matthew 6:19-21


Why do you do what you do?


Why are you not doing what Jesus has called you to do?

It’s that time of year. Kids are going back to school. We have four sons and the oldest one graduated high school last May. My husband and I attended public school growing up. I remember thinking that people who homeschooled were weird. For some reason, when our oldest was a toddler we decided to try out homeschooling. We wanted to be with our children and teach them a biblical worldview .  We quickly multiplied and had our older three sons two and a half years apart. My husband traveled and preached a lot during those years and we wanted to be together as a family so we continued to homeschool the boys. Life's Passing

We had to make an unexpected trip to Georgia last weekend because my husbands grandmother died.  She was 87 years old.  Her name was Elizabeth Mason.  She lived with my husbands parents for the last 10 months of her life.  Before that she lived in an assisted living home.  I can't imagine what it must be like to grow old.   Today is my birthday and I am only 29...however, all week I have been freaking out about being almost 30!  Then I remind myself that that is NOT old at all, right? ;) I was wondering today how people grow old with grace.  You meet people who grow old and never complain about it.  They are a joy to be around and full of wisdom.  Growing old must be difficult because there are so many changes in every way.  The way you look and feel and sometimes where you live even changes.  I can't imagine having to leave the house that you called home year after year.  And being dependent on other people to help y...

When life feels heavy, not merry

The second week of December I have heard several people including myself say that life feels heavy. It’s the holiday season and everywhere we look there are reminders of what others are doing to celebrate this season or what marketers want you to buy for your loved ones.  It’s the season for winter blues or seasonal depression for those who suffer from that. Just when I think I’ve beat it, it rears its ugly head again with a heaviness that makes you tired and unhappy-a battle fought in your own mind and body.  It’s also the time of year when grief can hit hard. Celebrating the holidays when you’ve lost a loved one is not the same. You may feel wrong or guilty for celebrating without them or you may not feel like celebrating at all. What is a “Happy Holiday” for some is a trigger for grief and pain that makes you feel like you want to be left alone.   Dysfunctional families can create chaos, guilt and shame during this time of year.
