Summer Fun or Work?

Today was a hot summer day!  We ran some errands, went to the farmer's market, went to a church fellowship and then headed home.  I walked in the door and my boys immediately asked if they could swim.  I was a "mean parent" and said "No, you have to take a nap now and it's the hottest part of the day..."  So they took their nap while I cleaned the kitchen and then woke up and swam.  I debated if I should join in the pool fun or bake bread like I had planned and organize homeschool stuff for next year.  I decided to keep the 1 year old inside with me while I baked and organized and let Daddy swim with the other two boys.  Finally I got to a stopping point and decided to go have some summer fun with my boys!  I only lasted an hour in that heat but it was fun.  After supper I finished up baking and cleaning out old homeschool bins and material.  Here is the point to this blog :  even though it is summer time don't stop everything to play the whole time...b

Insecurity and Significance

The older I have gotten (I'm only 28 though!) the more I struggle with insecurity .  I don't know if its because I've had three babies and quit exercising as much or if its because I don't remind myself of God's Word on the matter like I used to.  When I was a teenage girl I kept notes in my Bible and in my room that had verses on the topic of insecurity and self image.  I constantly reminded myself of who I was in Christ .  I had a quote in my Bible that said, "I am significant because Christ lives in me and I am secure because I am in Christ"      Think about that for a minute...You don't have to feel insecure, invisible, less than or like a nobody because if you are born again then the King of ALL Kings lives INSIDE of you and that makes you somebody!!  That makes you a child of the King, a saint, an heir, a son and daughter of God! Colossians 1:27 says, "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among

James 5

We are now on the last chapter of James!   Congratulations!   Take some time to get alone with the Lord and pray.   Thank God for what He has done for you and for who He is.   Ask for wisdom.   Pray for the church prayer list, our church family and the Pastor and his family. 1.         Read James 5:1-3.   Here James is talking about the rich heaping up treasures for the last days.   You may be rich, but most of us are not.   The rich are apt to troubles because of their riches.   They have to worry about where their money will be safe and secure at.   The investments, the banks, the stocks, the government…all things they have to worry about.   I like it better having barely any money so I don’t have to worry about losing it!   God provides enough for what I need.   2.       What does James 5:2 say about their riches?   A lot of “rich” people have obtained their riches through corruption, greed and scandal and that is wrong. 3.       A commentator said that true value is only f

Are You Overwhelmed?

Sometimes life can get overwhelming .  Paying bills, working, taking care of your family, church, activities, sports, problems, cooking and cleaning, never ending laundry, people always needing you and calling your name...what overwhelms you?  God knew we would get overwhelmed.  When life seems out of control what are you tempted to do?  You could be tempted to yell, cry, drink, smoke, cuss, etc.  But God wants you to cast your cares on Him.  "Casting all your care on Him because He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7  Call out to Him in prayer when you are overwhelmed.        As a Pastor's wife I get overwhelmed a lot.        As a mother of three kids who homeschools I get overwhelmed!        As an obsessive compulsive neat freak I get overwhelmed:)          As a woman with hormones I get overwhelmed... This is the verse that I read today when I was overwhelmed... "Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.  From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my

Is the Lord Willing?

We are still in the book of James!   I love the book of James!   We have taken some breaks so you may want to skim back over James chapters 1 through chapter 4:12 to refresh your memory.   Remind yourself of some things you have learned since we began this study.   Hold yourself accountable to the standard in God’s Word.   Whenever we compare ourselves to other Christians we can always find some that are doing a better job or a worse job than we are.   This is why it is imperative that we use the Bible as our barometer. 1.       Read James 4:13 and compare it to Proverbs 27:1.   We should not brag to others about what our future plans are because they could always change.   The Lord is in control of everything and we should say “I will do this if the Lord’s willing.” 2.       Read James 4:14.   What is your life, according to this verse?   Define the word vapor.   How does the end of verse 14 describe a vapor?   Read Job 7:7.   How does it describe life?   Has your life gone by

Why do you do the things you do?

My husband and I have been talking a lot lately about why we do the things we do.  Have you ever thought about it?  A lot of times we do the things we do because we were raised that way or we were made to do things without knowing the reason behind it.  Why do you dress the way you dress?  Why do you wear a thing called a bathing suit to the beach?  Why do you wear certain clothes to church and different clothes to school or work?  Why do you go to college?  Why are you working at that  job?  What are your motives behind doing things for others and/or the Lord?  Do you find yourself doing things that your heart is not in just because people expect you to do them?  We are only supposed to please one person and that is the Lord!  The next time you are about to do something out of habit, tradition or ritual check your motives...seek the Lord and His Word for the answers...
